New Band - Echo Raptors

Echo Raptors are a new band from Belfast, and were previously known as the Kicks. Don't really know that much about them, as I only discovered them a few days ago, but they are definitely one of, the not THE best new band I've heard this year. Their Facebook page (which oddly is a profile and not a group) lists some of their influences as Oasis, Kasabian, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Jet. The most noticable of these influences in their music are Jet and Oasis, however. Although information on the band is scarce, they have 7 songs available to download on their Soundcloud page, all of which are excellent, particularly Plastic People, which is in my top 5 songs of the year. Those who scoff at Viva Brother being compared to Oasis will almost certainly prefer this band, as they are certainly more rock 'n' roll than the Slough four-piece. This band deserves to be big, check out their Soundcloud page here:

Cursed?

Apologies for the lack of posts over the past few days, my computer has yet again broken. Beginning to think I may be cursed; my computer broke within days of setting up both Carnival Of Light and Pick A Part That's New. I'm going on holiday for 3 weeks on Saturday, so not sure if there will be any posts then, or even before Saturday as the supposed specialists at PC world are still looking at my computer. This also explains why there's been nothing posted on Carnival Of Light the past few days, so sorry for that as well. Fear not though, normal service will (eventually) resume.

Miles Kane - 2011-07-06 - Live At The iTunes Festival, London

Kind of ironic how I said one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog was to get away from the structure of Carnival Of Light, but I end up starting off with a post that would fit happily on there (I'll probably upload it there too in future). Miles Kane is one of my favourite new artists to emerge this year, and I've been a big fan since I saw him supporting Beady Eye in March. Anyway, this is a recent gig he did at the iTunes Festival, which is held in the London Roundhouse.  I have a couple of Miles Kane bootlegs but this is easily the best, due to the superior sound quality and longer setlist. If you only want one Miles Kane bootleg, make it this one. Credit must go to Sam Cowlishaw, who ripped and uploaded this gig as well as creating the brilliant artwork you see above.

We Have Lift Off!

Hello everyone, and welcome to my new blog! As some of you may know, I run a bootlegs and rarities blog called Carnival Of Light. However, a lot of the stuff I post on there is by older bands, and I wanted to branch out a bit and cover some newer bands as well, which is why I decided to start this blog. I also wanted a bit of a change from the structure of Carnival Of Light and give myself a chance to ramble on a bit instead of just putting up downloads. There will be some of that here, but I'll try to only post stuff by new bands or new stuff by older bands, hence the name of this blog. The aim of this blog is to hopefully help people discover new bands as well as enjoy old ones. To get an idea of the sort of music I like, you may want to visit Carnival Of Light at www.carnival-of-light.blogspot.com
So, wish me luck and I hope you enjoy the blog!
