New Albums By Cast and Babybird Out Now!

It may interest some of you to hear of new albums by Cast and Babybird (both are excellent!) so decided to tell y'all.
Babybird's new album is called The Pleasures Of Self Destruction, and is in my opinion one of the best albums of the year. Most people seem to only know You're Gorgeous, but they have an excellent and consistent back catalogue that is very much worth checking out. This and 2009's Ex-Maniac are probably my favourites.
Cast's latest effort, and their first since 2001's questionable Beetroot, is also excellent. The sound is not far removed from their 90's heyday, although there are influences from both John's solo career and The La's on a couple of songs. The album has only been released to those who have pledged on Pledgemusic, although it shouldn't be too hard to find a link. It will be out in a couple of months for non-pledgers.

Both albums are very much worth a listen!

3. Ride To Nowhere
4. Spilt Milk
5. Rise
6. Scared Of Missing Out
7. Mind Field

Stone Roses Reunion CONFIRMED!

The reunion has been confirmed! Two shows at Heaton Park on the 29th and 30th of June as part of a world tour, and there's new material on the way! John Robb's twitter is probably the best source of info and quotes: http://twitter.com/#!/johnrobb77

New Band - British Daylight

British Daylight are one of a crop of excellent new bands that has sprung up in Leeds recently, and in my opinion are among the best of them. Their facebook page describes them as a "Five-piece indie/alternative outfit from Leeds, UK". The most obvious influence on their sound is The Libertines, although there are shades of debut-era Arctic Monkeys on some songs. They have seven excellent songs to listen to on their soundcloud page, and are well worth a look, especially for fans of The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things.

Stone Roses Reunion?

This story comes up almost every year and probably isn't true, but we can dream! NME reporting it has got my hopes up a bit, but I guess we'll have to wait until tuesday til we know for sure. Anyway here's the NME article: http://www.nme.com/news/the-stone-roses/59813

Dodgy - New Song, Tripped And Fell

This is a brand new track from Dodgy, who I'm sure many will remember from their mid-90s heyday. However, they reformed a couple of years ago and are now on the verge of releasing a new album, called Stand Upright In A Cool Place. All being well, it should be out in January 2012. The band is touring extensively in Autumn as well, details here: http://www.dodgyology.com/

Oasis - Be Here Now Demos

These are not exactly new, but they've only just surfaced online so decided I could get away with it! There are only 4 tracks here but it's the first real thing to surface from these sessions so I most certainly am not complaining. Sound quality is not excellent but listenable and much better than the preview I posted before. Link thanks to icebreath, and artwork thanks to Jim over at Rkid003.

The Sums New Album Out In Autumn

Some of you may know the Sums as the band that evolved from Smaller, friends and touring partners of Oasis in the mid-90s. Their singer, Digsy, should also be a familiar name to any Oasis fan! The Sums have been around for a fair few years, and although they've released a fair few songs online they have not (until now) released a proper album. Heard about this through the L4E website, and there is an interview with Digsy which can be found here: http://oasisnewsroom.live4ever.us/2011/09/interview-digsy-on-oasis-and-his-new.html
The album is set to be called If Only, and by the looks of the preview video below will include several of the songs we've already heard.
However, I recently compiled an album of all the songs that have been released so far, which I named Division, so for those who can't wait for this check it out on my other blog here: http://carnival-of-light.blogspot.com/2011/06/sums-division.html

I'll keep y'all undated with details as they surface.

Kasabian - Velociraptor! Leak

Seems this leaked ealier today, which excited me greatly as I've been looking forward to this one for a while! Listening to it now and it sounds excellent so far, songs generally seem a bit slower and less anthemic than previous efforts. Not going to directly post a link as that'd risk the blog being removed, but I will give you a massive hint: google "Kasabian Velociraptor turkrock" and select the Mediafire result (it was at the top for me). Enjoy!

Beady Eye - 2011-09-05 - Live At The Zepp Club, Tokyo

This very recent Beady Eye gig is notable for a couple of reasons: the second ever time Beady Eye have played Across The Universe live (and the first at a 'normal' gig) and, as far as I the longest setlist they've done so far. This was recorded by mini and shared by popstar12345, so most of the credit must go to them, I only split the tracks and hosted the link. Sound quality is pretty good, if a little quiet at times. If you're only after a couple of Beady Eye bootlegs, I would definitely recommend this one for the reasons above. I made the above artwork, very happy with it personally!

New Noel Gallagher Song, If I Had A Gun

Its called If I Had A Gun, and die-hard Oasis fans will recognise it as one of the songs that surfaced in soundchecks two years ago. It's obviously been worked on since then though, and is easily my favourite song he's released so far. Seems kinda fitting that it's been premiered almost exactly two years since the day that Oasis split up... Without further ado:
In other Oasis-related news, someone on the Live4ever forum seems to have got hold of some Be Here Now demos but unfortunatley the quality is very poor as it was recorded on a phone from an old tape. Only I Hope, I Think, I Know has surfaced so far but the user apparently has 3 other songs, will keep y'all updated.

Songs I'm Enjoying

Echo Raptors - Plastic People
http://soundcloud.com/echoraptors/plastic-people
I'm aware I keep banging on about them, but not been this excited about a new band for a long while. All 8 of their Soundcloud songs are excellent but this one takes the biscuit for me, massive tune. Give 'em a listen if you haven't already.

IC1s - Whack Jack (Demo)
http://soundcloud.com/ic1s/whack-jack
Another great new band, this one from West London and formed last summer. They have 4 songs up on Soundcloud, all of which are very good, although this one has such a catchy chorus I couldn't not include it. Expect a 'new band' post on these soon.

Viva Brother - Electric Daydream
I realise this may well be a controversial choice, as this band has attracted just many haters as fans. However, I fall into the latter category, and for me this is the highlight of a solid debut album. Bit of a change of pace from the rest of the album, probably won't convert any haters but those who haven't heard the band could do worse than to see what all the fuss is about.

Beady Eye - In The Bubble With A Bullet
This song has been out for a couple of months now, but I was away when it was released so only heard it properly in the last couple of weeks. This is a lovely song, and in my opinion the best thing Beady Eye have done so far, although it is slightly let down by the ending in my opinion. Give it a listen if you haven't heard it already!

Babyshambles - Maybelline
This unreleased Babyshambles song dates from about 2008, but I only discovered it recently. Great riff and song, up there with Fuck Forever and Delivery as Babyshambles' best song for me. Had to post a live video as there is no video of the demo which was posted online in 2008. Speaking of which, I have found this demo near-impossible to track down so if anyone has it please get in touch, cheers.

New Band - Crooked Tongues

This blog has been a little bootleg-heavy recently, so shall be balancing things out in the next few days by posting on some new bands. Anyway, onwards... Crooked Tongues were formed in summer 2010 in Leeds. The band say on their Soundcloud page they are influenced by bands such as The Who, the Sex Pistols and Oasis, and have the noble mission statement of bringing "the classic days of indie back to a new generation". Although they only have 2 songs available online, their music echoes the intent in those words. Of these two, Fake Smile is a swaggering anthem that sounds like a more 'Oasis-y' Twisted Wheel, and Lick It is a two and a half minute instrumental that sounds almost like an instrumental version of Stereophonics' 'Soldiers Make Good Targets', which is most definitely not a bad thing. These two songs show great promise, and I am sure I'm not the only one eagerly awaiting more being posted (I'll be sure to keep you in the loop). Those who listened to and enjoyed Echo Raptors (and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?!) would do well to check out this band, as well as obviously fans of Oasis and those yearning for the days when bands had a bit more swagger and attitude.

Arctic Monkeys - 2011 Live Bootlegs

Following on from my Kasabian post the other day, I decided to do a similar thing with the Arctic Monkeys. Bootlegs from this year have been quite hard to come by, but a few have come to light over the past few months. However, tracking them all down is quite a task, so decided to post all the ones I've found together in one place. Think there may be a few more, or some Youtube videos that can be ripped, so I may do another post like this in a few months if I find enough. And again, if you have a problem with any of these links being used, let me know and I'll remove them.

New Band - Echo Raptors

Echo Raptors are a new band from Belfast, and were previously known as the Kicks. Don't really know that much about them, as I only discovered them a few days ago, but they are definitely one of, the not THE best new band I've heard this year. Their Facebook page (which oddly is a profile and not a group) lists some of their influences as Oasis, Kasabian, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Jet. The most noticable of these influences in their music are Jet and Oasis, however. Although information on the band is scarce, they have 7 songs available to download on their Soundcloud page, all of which are excellent, particularly Plastic People, which is in my top 5 songs of the year. Those who scoff at Viva Brother being compared to Oasis will almost certainly prefer this band, as they are certainly more rock 'n' roll than the Slough four-piece. This band deserves to be big, check out their Soundcloud page here:

Cursed?

Apologies for the lack of posts over the past few days, my computer has yet again broken. Beginning to think I may be cursed; my computer broke within days of setting up both Carnival Of Light and Pick A Part That's New. I'm going on holiday for 3 weeks on Saturday, so not sure if there will be any posts then, or even before Saturday as the supposed specialists at PC world are still looking at my computer. This also explains why there's been nothing posted on Carnival Of Light the past few days, so sorry for that as well. Fear not though, normal service will (eventually) resume.

Miles Kane - 2011-07-06 - Live At The iTunes Festival, London

Kind of ironic how I said one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog was to get away from the structure of Carnival Of Light, but I end up starting off with a post that would fit happily on there (I'll probably upload it there too in future). Miles Kane is one of my favourite new artists to emerge this year, and I've been a big fan since I saw him supporting Beady Eye in March. Anyway, this is a recent gig he did at the iTunes Festival, which is held in the London Roundhouse.  I have a couple of Miles Kane bootlegs but this is easily the best, due to the superior sound quality and longer setlist. If you only want one Miles Kane bootleg, make it this one. Credit must go to Sam Cowlishaw, who ripped and uploaded this gig as well as creating the brilliant artwork you see above.

We Have Lift Off!

Hello everyone, and welcome to my new blog! As some of you may know, I run a bootlegs and rarities blog called Carnival Of Light. However, a lot of the stuff I post on there is by older bands, and I wanted to branch out a bit and cover some newer bands as well, which is why I decided to start this blog. I also wanted a bit of a change from the structure of Carnival Of Light and give myself a chance to ramble on a bit instead of just putting up downloads. There will be some of that here, but I'll try to only post stuff by new bands or new stuff by older bands, hence the name of this blog. The aim of this blog is to hopefully help people discover new bands as well as enjoy old ones. To get an idea of the sort of music I like, you may want to visit Carnival Of Light at www.carnival-of-light.blogspot.com
So, wish me luck and I hope you enjoy the blog!
